Technical Questions

What AI models can I use with LexLuma?

Lexluma AI can connect to a variety of model providers. We typically offer a selection of popular models by default. The specific models available may change as we update the service. You can see the current list of available models within the chat interface when you start a new conversation.

Do I need my own API keys?

For some model providers, yes. To use models from services like OpenAI or Anthropic, you will need to provide your own API key, which you can enter securely in your account settings. Using your own key gives you direct control over your usage and costs with the model provider. For other models, we may provide access without requiring a personal key.

How is my data handled and stored?

Your privacy is our top priority.

  • Conversations: Your chat history is stored securely on our servers and is accessible only to you (and administrators for essential maintenance and security purposes).
  • API Keys: Any API keys you provide are encrypted and stored securely. They are only used to facilitate your requests to the respective model providers.
  • Privacy: We do not use your conversations to train third-party AI models without your explicit consent. For full details, please read our Privacy Policy.

Why would I use my own API key?

Using your own API key has two main benefits:

  1. Cost Control: You pay the model provider (e.g., OpenAI) directly based on your usage, which can be more flexible than a fixed subscription.
  2. Access to Latest Models: You often get immediate access to the newest models released by the provider.

Features and Capabilities

Can I upload files and images?

Yes! One of the strengths of LexLuma is its multimodal capabilities. You can upload various file types, including images, PDFs, Word documents, and text files. The AI can then read and analyze the content of these files to answer your questions or assist with tasks.

What are "Presets"?

Presets are a powerful feature that allow you to save and reuse custom instruction sets for the AI. You can create a preset for a specific role, like "Code Review Assistant" or "Creative Writing Partner," with tailored instructions, temperature settings, and model preferences. This saves you from re-typing complex prompts every time.

Can I create and share chat templates?

Yes, you can create "Prompts" (reusable chat starters) and share them with others. This is great for collaborating on tasks or distributing useful conversation frameworks.

Is there a search function for my old chats?

Yes, the interface includes a search bar that allows you to quickly find specific conversations by their title or content.

Troubleshooting

The AI's response seems slow. Why?

Response speed can depend on several factors:

  • Model Provider: The speed of the underlying AI model's API (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
  • Server Load: High traffic on our servers or the model provider's servers can cause delays.
  • Your Internet Connection: A slow or unstable internet connection can also be the cause.

I'm getting an error message about an API key. What should I do?

This usually means the model you've selected requires a valid API key that you haven't provided or that has expired.

  1. Go to your account settings.
  2. Navigate to the section for the model provider (e.g., "OpenAI Settings").
  3. Ensure your API key is entered correctly and is active.

The AI is not reading my uploaded file correctly.

First, ensure the file format is supported (e.g., .txt, .pdf, .jpg). If the problem continues, try breaking your request down. Instead of a complex question, ask: "Can you summarize the key points in this PDF?" Clear, direct prompts often yield better results with document analysis.

Privacy and Security

How secure is my data?

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Our systems are regularly maintained and monitored.

Will my conversations be used to train AI models?

When using your own API key: Your interactions are governed by the privacy policy of the model provider (e.g., OpenAI's data usage policies).
When using our provided models: We do not use your personal conversations to train public or third-party AI models. Any data used for improving our local models is anonymized and aggregated to protect your privacy. We are committed to ethical AI practices.
